Paediatric Orthopedic

Pediatric orthopedics is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries in children and adolescents. These conditions can range from congenital abnormalities to developmental disorders and traumatic injuries. Examples include clubfoot (talipes equinovarus), developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), limb length discrepancies, and congenital scoliosis. Conditions like Perthes disease, slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), and Osgood-Schlatter disease affect the growth and development of bones and joints during childhood. Scoliosis, an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, can develop during childhood or adolescence. Other spinal deformities, such as kyphosis and lordosis, may also require treatment. Conditions like cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and spina bifida can affect muscle function and bone development, leading to orthopedic issues. Osteomyelitis (bone infection) and bone tumors, though less common, can affect children and require specialized orthopedic care.
